How To Change The Global Footer Of Your Emails

By the end of this guide, you will be able to edit your global footer of the emails that are sent out in your marketing campaigns. Note that having a global footer with the link to Unsubscribe from your campaigns is mandatory by law as per the CAN-SPAM regulations.

So let's first see what goes into creating an email footer.


An email footer contains information that doesn't change from one email to the other.

If you have a very basic footer, it should contain three main pieces of information:

  • Unsubscribe link
  • Update email preference link (if provided)
  • Mailing Address of your company

But since footer is a prime real-estate in your email and has to be set up once, it should reflect your brand and act as a place where people can go to find a lot more information.

So we suggest to include these basic elements in your email footers, along with the ones mentioned above:

Logo: This increases brand recall and is good to have in footer as a closing thought.

Social media links: There will drive traffic to your social media pages, increase your followers and hence your reach outside of email.

Contact Information: This can be a support email address where people can quickly write to for any information. It reduces the friction of them going to the website and figuring out this information by themselves.

Link to download the app: If you have your own app, it's good to link it in the footer so that it's easily accessible and you can connect with subscribers on your own native platform.

Privacy Policy: Link to the page where you mention how subscribers' information is stored and used.

So now that we know what the contents of a footer are, let's checkout some tips to use the footer effectively.

Create information hierarchy:

Creating a hierarchy means that the sequence of the information in the footer should be from the most important information first to the least important at the end. The most important information being something that you want people to click the most.

Keep it simple:

Don't clutter your footer with too many links or too clever copy without much context. Use simple language and easily identifiable icons.

Leave ample white space between different kinds of content. Make it easy to scan and find information.

Separate it from the main content:

Let it be clearly visible that the content has ended and the footer has begun by using a contrasting color for your footer. Keep this color the same in all your emails.

  • In your SendX Dashboard, click on the Settings button on the top right which looks like this.

  • In your Settings, go to the Account Details tab.
  • Under the field Default HTML Unsubscribe Footer, you can see the default Unsubscribe Message that SendX sends out at the bottom of all your emails. Feel free to edit that message according to your brand, and your needs.
  • Make sure that your message has , and in it, to be able to save these settings, and successfully run your marketing campaigns in SendX.
  • Click on Save Account Details in the bottom right to save your settings and associate your new Footer Message with your marketing campaigns.
